Indivisible Benton County’s Action Committees
Indivisible Benton County’s Action Committees
Most of Indivisible BC’s work is done by our four loosely organized action committees:
- Communication: Keeping members and the public informed about what’s going on and how they can help.
- Volunteers are needed to: write or edit the weekly newsletter; create or update content for our website; post to our social media accounts; or design, print, or distribute event flyers.
- Community Outreach: Collaborating with other organizations to support members of our community and providing direct outreach by tabling at the Corvallis Farmers Market and other events.
- Members of this committee have developed subcommittees based on their interests. These will change over time with new opportunities and shifting community needs.
- Volunteers are needed to: reach out to other aligned organizations, support tabling efforts, and help support local groups in preparing and distributing food boxes.
- Subcommittee: Immigrant Support: fundraising for local families with other community groups (NeST).
- Events: Organizing protests, vigils, and community-building events.
- Volunteers are needed to: plan or run external events (e.g., rallies) or internal events (e.g., the Community Celebration, social time at general meetings); lead safety teams; coordinate volunteers; or track or purchase supplies.
- Subcommittee: Visibility Brigade: create and display large banners in high-visibility locations.
- Legislative/Voter Outreach: Contacting local, state, and federal officials; organizing get-out-the-vote efforts.
- Volunteers are needed for: canvassing; letter, email, telephone, or postcard-writing campaigns; or voter education efforts.
One General Meeting per month has time set aside for action committee meetings. Subcommittees may meet more often. Outside of meetings, committees communicate through their email lists (generally <1 email per month). Some committees also use Slack to organize. (A future column will provide an introduction to Slack).
You are welcome to join as many action committees as you would like, or switch between them based on your current priorities, and committees often overlap (e.g. posting flyers for events). You can be involved as little or as much as you choose. And even if you are not part of a committee, you can still participate in the actions they organize (e.g. volunteer at a protest, pack food boxes, send postcards).
To join or learn more about any committee or subcommittee, please email [email protected] with the name of the committee(s) or attend the committee meeting at the next general meeting.
