How will YOU meet this moment?

This moment feels different. The anguish is tangible. Another murder at the hands of ICE. The occupation of an American city by a federal paramilitary force. The further slide of our institutions into fascism.

This moment requires massive collective action, like what we are witnessing in Minnesota right now. This moment requires that we—who believe that our country can do better, who believe in democracy, with liberty and justice for all—come together to resist this authoritarian government. To make further progress, we will have to make very real sacrifices that we are just beginning to understand.

We do not have to accept their tyranny. We get to choose how we respond to this moment. Yet there is no quick fix. This moment has been in the making for decades. We have made slow steady progress for our cause:  mass public opposition in the streets, strategic direct action, disruption of labor and the economy, and huge swings towards progressive candidates in recent off-year elections. But not enough people are activated in the movement. Too many are still apathetic, misinformed, or overwhelmed.

We have come together collectively in protests and vigils. We have developed relationships with community organizations for mutual aid, to support our vulnerable neighbors. But we need to do more. We can do more.

Our General Meeting this week will focus on how WE can meet this moment:

  • What are the roadblocks preventing you from taking action? How could Indivisible Benton County or others in the community ease that barrier?
  • How effective have your resistance efforts been? What could you do differently to make the most of your time and energy?
  • How can we bring more people into the movement?
The general meeting will be on Wednesday, January 28th at Corvallis Community Center at 6:30pm. We invite you to reflect on these questions in preparation for the discussion.
