After an embarrassing visit to the British royals, where our wannabe King couldn’t even follow centuries-old protocols, this week we saw a rapid and dangerous escalation of authoritarianism. At a mass memorial for Charlie Kirk in Arizona, White House aide Stephen Miller delivered an explicitly vengeful, propagandistic address, framing Kirk’s death as a political war and promising to use the DOJ and DHS to “identify, disrupt, dismantle, and destroy” alleged left-wing networks — rhetoric strikingly reminiscent of Goebbels’ addresses in 1930s Germany, JD Vance has launched a campaign targeting those who criticize Kirk’s death, demanding reports of “distasteful” remarks, threatening employment consequences, and labeling media critics as part of a supposed leftist threat. The recent designation of antifa as a terrorist organization mirrors this language even though the administration has ample evidence that antifa is a political stance, not an organization. Yet this theatrical label is being used to criminalize dissent.Using the FCC as a censorship tool and claiming that disobedience would cause corporate financial losses, the regime temporarily silenced Jimmy Kimmel — today ABC reversed course and reinstated his show following massive boycotts and protests against Disney and its associates.
California continues pushing back with the “No Secret Police Act,” banning officers from hiding their identities with masks during operations, a direct rebuke to federal enforcement tactics. Meanwhile, as the federal vaccine advisory apparatus under RFK Jr. drifts farther from science and increasingly embraces quackery-based ideology, the West Coast states (CA, OR, WA, and HI) formed the West Coast Health Alliance to maintain science-based public health guidance. Meanwhile, Trump demands to stop measuring Food Insecurity, a move that strips the government of its main gauge of hunger in America, and will impede efforts to track the impact of aid cuts (NYT)
Mike Johnson yet again canceled the regular work of the House, this time for the looming funding deadline, instead of halting votes on the release of the Epstein files. FOTUS has told all republicans to not speak to democrats about the looming shut down as the Senate requires at least 7 votes to pass the funding bill. The only ask from Senate Democrats has been to permanently extend ACA tax credits and roll back Medicaid cuts in the budget bill to control the cost of healthcare for all Americans.
