| I’m writing to remind you that this coming general meeting will take the form of a mini town hall with Senator Sara Gelser-Blouin and Representative Sarah Finger McDonald.
We will meet, as always, at the Corvallis Community Center. The town hall begins at 6:30 pm. Space is limited, so please plan to arrive a few minutes early to ensure you get a seat.
At our last meeting, committee members began drafting a letter to Governor Newsom -a formal statement outlining Indivisible Benton County’s position on this year’s gerrymandering battle.
We discussed the League of Women Voters’ (LWV) letter, which strongly opposes Governor Newsom’s redistricting plan. You can read it on their website. While we agree with the principle of opposing gerrymandering, we concluded that the LWV letter does not fully address the unprecedented political circumstances we face. We also noted important differences between California’s approach to redistricting and what was done in Texas.
Our position is clear: we oppose gerrymandering, but we see no viable path to ending it without having to swallow the frog this time. If Democrats fail to respond to the redistricting already carried out (and still planned), by red states, we risk granting legitimacy to a regime that could not otherwise win control of Congress under fair maps.
Our letter will be read tomorrow at the town hall. We hope you’ll join us!
Looking ahead, we expect our committee’s work to intensify in the coming months. With the midterms just over a year away, and the stakes higher than ever, we must be ready to help secure a Democratic majority at both the local and federal levels. We may not always succeed in electing exclusively progressive candidates, but we cannot afford to let MAGA forces claim any more ground.
As you know, our committee is a participatory body. We welcome your ideas, input, and voices in shaping our work and decisions.

See you Wednesday! |
